Our Story
Transformative Sports Medicine was founded by former professional and NCAA athlete Keira McCarrell. An Oregon native, Keira's perspective shifted dramatically when she moved to Alabama to attend Auburn University.
She witnessed firsthand the critical lack of funding for healthy sports programs and, crucially, the severe deficit of healthy outlets available to predominantly Black and BIPOC schools in the region. TSM was born out of the expectation that all children deserve the right to healthy sports and safe, equitable medical care. Recognizing that BIPOC communities often struggle with their connections to the medical field, TSM aims to be a more trusted resource, giving these students the absolute best chance possible to thrive and be healthy.
A Foundational Question
Our work is driven by a deep commitment to social justice and athlete well-being, best summarized by our founder's core belief:
"BIPOC youth have so few healthy outlets in their developmental years. Why isn't the most fun option also the safest?"
This question guides every decision we make, from staffing and training initiatives (Phase One & Two) to establishing centralized, accessible clinics (Phase Three). It is our mandate to ensure that participation in sport—one of the healthiest and most engaging developmental options available—comes with a guarantee of safety and medical security.
